PADI Discover Scuba Diving
    • Towel
    • Windproof Jacket (Weather dependant)
    • Bathing suit / Swimming costume
    • Sunblock
    • Seasick medication (if you are prone to seasickness)

This course has been specifically designed for all you adventurers who want to dive in open water without committing to the entry-level courses. However, once you have completed this experience, we will give you a referral form, crediting all components to put towards your scuba diver/open water course should you wish to continue your scuba education.

You will have a talky-teachy-chatty session with your instructor about the scuba diving basics and a description of the four staged skills you are required to perform underwater. Then you will enter the water for buoyancy, skill and underwater swimming practise.

After your pool session, you will then be thoroughly briefed for your first ever open water dive. This will include boating and diving procedures, information on the dive site and plant and marine animals you will encounter while diving. This is your chance to feel the sensation of zero gravity, to observe marine creatures in their own environment and to leave only bubbles and take only memories. For this incredible experience the minimum age is 10 years old.

If you want to try scuba diving, but you’re not quite ready to take the plunge into a scuba diving certification course, most PADI® dive centers offer a half-day experience called Discover Scuba Diving in a pool or pool-like environment, with an optional open water dive. It’s a quick and easy way to find out if you like scuba diving.

      • Experience scuba diving in 2-4 hours

The course includes: Theory, 1 pool session and 1 ocean dive

This is not a certification course, but can count towards your certification for your PADI Open Water Course.  You will however receive high praise from your instructor and fellow divers and will be awarded with a recognition certificate for your adventure under the sea.

      ITINERARY

(Minimum age: 8 / max. 1,5h)

This course is a fun, safe and easy way to allow our kids a chance to join in the scuba diving excitement. This course offers you, the curious one, the chance just to try scuba and discover the sensation of your first breath underwater. Our Instructors will talk you through the basics of scuba diving, what the equipment consists of and the function of each piece, before you take to the water! It is a pool only experience and is available to all 8 years and older!

WHAT YOUR CHILD WILL LEARN:

Experience scuba diving under the direct care and supervision of a PADI Pro. Take their first breaths underwater in water shallower than 2 metres. Learn about and use scuba diving equipment made for children – not adults. Have lots of fun.

  • All equipment
  • Certificate

PADI Scuba Diving

The Scuba Diver course is the first of the entry-level courses and consists of:

        3 Knowledge development modules

3 Confined water or pool dives

2 Open water dives, where you will apply all that you have learned to dive in the sea! We will ensure that you get to dive two different reefs on your qualifying dives to give you a variety in dive sites for your logbook!

Once the course is completed you will be certified to dive to a maximum depth of 12 metres while accompanied by a diving professional. And whenever you wish you may carry on with your training to acquire your full open water certification.

OR

If you’re a bit limited on time or still a bit nervous to commit to your full Open Water Course but are ready for a Certification, then the Scuba Diver Course is perfect for you!

The course will take up to two days. With your first day starting off in the pool with your instructor, you will go through a skill circuit to gain your in-water confidence and your necessary skills for certification. The following day you will head out for two open water ocean dives where you will practice some of the skills you mastered in the pool.

Your Scuba Diver certification has a depth restriction of 12 meters; however, you are able to upgrade at any point to Open Water Diver. You can complete your upgrade with us, or you will be able to do so at any other PADI facility in the world.

There is some E-learning that will need to complete. This can be done before your arrival in Mozambique so that once you arrive, you can jump straight into the practical!

How to Earn Your Scuba Diving Certification

Learn about scuba diving principles and terminology (either in-person or online), then learn basic scuba skills in a pool (or pool-like environment) with a highly trained PADI Instructor. When you’re ready, make four dives in an open water environment (the ocean, a lake) with your instructor supporting you every step of the way.

Step 1

PADI eLearning

PADI eLearning makes it easy to fit scuba lessons into a busy schedule. Learn about scuba diving principles and terminology whenever, wherever it’s convenient for you.

It’s your course on your time. Study offline, or online using a computer or mobile device. Connect with your instructor whenever you have a question.

  • eLearning time commitment: 5-10 hours

Step 2

With Your Instructor

ADDITIONAL COST: Your Dive Shop will charge fees for training and gear rental.

Practice using scuba gear in a pool (or pool-like environment) until you’re comfortable. PADI training includes practice “mini dives” to help you build confidence in your new abilities before making four dives in open water.

  • Total time commitment: In as little as 2-4 days

Prerequisites & Minimum Age

Course prerequisites: able to swim, medically fit for diving, comfortable in the water

During the Open Water Diver course, your instructor will ask you to:

  • Float or tread water without aids for 10 minutes
  • Swim 200 metres/yards with no aids or 300 metres/yards with mask, fins and snorkel

Minimum age: 10

Divers certified between the ages of 10-14 earn a Junior Diver certification

Junior Open Water Divers automatically become Open Water Divers at age 15. Any replacement certification card or eCard purchased the day after the diver’s 15th birthday will automatically show an Open Water Diver (not Jr. Open Water Diver) certification.

Children eight or older can try scuba diving in a pool (or pool-like environment). Ask your PADI Dive Shop about a Bubblemaker experience or birthday party. Children who are comfortable in the water can participate in the PADI Seal Team program, a multi-day pool diving experience.

Time Commitment Details

  • PADI eLearning: 5-10 hours
  • Entire course: In as little as 2-4 days. Timing can vary based on your Dive Shop’s schedule and your progress and needs during the training.

Medical Requirements

Scuba diving requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Chronic health conditions, certain medications and/or recent surgery may require you to get written approval from a physician before diving.

  • Avoid disappointment, download and review the Diver Medical form to ensure you won’t need a physician’s approval to dive before enrolling in a scuba course.
  • Instructors, divemasters and dive shop staff are not physicians and should not be asked for medical advice; only medical professionals can give medical clearance to dive.
  • If you (or your physician) have questions about medical fitness to dive, contact the experts at Divers Alert Network (DAN).

After this course

Experience new adventures with a PADI Instructor by your side. PADI continuing education courses like Advanced Open Water Diver and Deep Diver will help you develop your skills as a diver. Learn more about PADI Specialty courses.

Not sure which specialty to try first? Try the Advanced Open Water Diver course, it’s like a specialty sampler platter.

  • Improve your navigation and buoyancy skills while you try new activities like wreck diving, night diving, or digital imaging
  • Choose from more than 20 specialty diving options
  • An Advanced Open Water Diver certification also opens the door to dive sites deeper than 18m/60ft

If you don’t have the opportunity to dive for six months (or longer), you can quickly refresh the knowledge and skills you learned in Open Water with the PADI ReActivate® program. Your PADI certification never expires, but after a long period of inactivity, you may want to brush up on diving fundamentals and safety procedures.

Contact your PADI Dive Center or Resort for more information.

Junior Open Water Course

The Junior Open Water Course is the perfect way to ensure the whole family can join in on the fun of Scuba Diving. The course follows the same procedure as the Open Water Course. The first day would be in the pool with an instructor to complete the skill circuit and gain confidence underwater. The following two days entail two dives a day to ensure the four dive requirement is met! There is also some theory that will need to be completed, however it is completely manageable for your kids to complete! The Junior Open Water Certification applies to 10 year olds but once they turn 12 years old, they will be automatically upgraded to Open Water Divers. This means that as Junior Open Waters their depth restriction will be 12m, which will be the only thing that differs from Open Water Certification.

To register for a PADI Junior Open Water Diver course:

PADI DSMB Diver Course

PADI DSMB Diver course

About the Course

Boats and currents are two common factors associated with many dive sites. Boaters don’t always recognize that divers are in the area and current can carry you further than expected. Launching a delayed surface marker buoy (DSMB) before you surface can alert others to your location in advance of your ascent. Adding another layer of safety, you can also use the DSMB line to complete your safety stop, which is advantageous in a current or when there are no other visual references. Take this course to learn about all the beneficial uses of a DSMB.

You need to be a PADI Open Water Diver who is at least 12 years old to enroll in the DSMB Diver course.

Getting Started Academic

Marker buoys serve a range of purposes, and you’ll learn about common types of DSMB along with the reels used to control them. During the two training dives, you’ll practice:

  • Preparing and stowing your DSMB and reel.
  • Deploying the DSMB from a stationary position and from mid-water.
  • Swimming while towing a DSMB and managing the reel and line.
  • Making a safety stop using the DSMB line.

Get credit! The first dive of this PADI Specialty Diver course may credit as an Adventure Dive toward your Advanced Open Water Diver certification—ask your instructor about earning credit.

Visit your local PADI Dive Center and Resort to enroll in the course, and schedule the first class session with your PADI Instructor.

Equipment

Besides your basic scuba equipment, you’ll need a DSMB and reel. Your PADI Instructor or local dive center staff will suggest other gear as appropriate.

PADI Multilevel Diver Course

PADI Multilevel Diver course

About the Course

In the old days, dive profiles were calculated from the surface down to a maximum depth, then back to the surface. Now, dive computers continually analyze your depth – giving you more bottom time for going shallower and allowing you to maximize your dive time. If you’d like to understand more about dive computers and learn how you can use tools like the eRDPMLTM to plan multilevel dives, then the Multilevel Diver Specialty course is for you.

If you’re a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver who is at least 12 years old, you can enroll in the Multilevel Diver course.

Getting Started

Stop by your local PADI Dive Center and Resort to sign up for the course, and to get an eRDPML and Instructions for Use booklet. Start learning to use this multilevel dive planner on your own before meeting with your PADI Instructor.

Academic

You’ll review decompression theory as it relates to multilevel diving and dive computer models, and plan multilevel dives using the eRDPML. During the first of your two multilevel dives, you’ll plan and execute a two-level dive, and on the second dive, you’ll complete a three-level scuba dive.

Get credit! The first dive of this PADI Specialty Diver course may credit as an Adventure Dive toward your Advanced Open Water Diver certification – ask your instructor about earning credit.

Equipment

Besides your basic scuba equipment you’ll want to have your own dive computer and a slate to record dive information. Ask your PADI Instructor or local dive center staff what additional equipment you may need for your multilevel scuba dives.

PADI Coral Reef Conservation Course

PADI Coral Reef Conservation course

About the Course

This course helps you appreciate the complexity of coral reef habitats and teaches how you can help conserve these vital systems.

Everyone likes to scuba dive or snorkel in warm, clear water on a vibrant coral reef, yet many people know little about what they’re seeing or the importance of reef ecosystems. The Coral Reef Conservation Specialty course helps you appreciate the complexity of these habitats and teaches you how you can help conserve these vital systems.

Anyone who has an interest in the aquatic world can take this course. There are no prerequisites or age restrictions and no water sessions are required to earn this non-diving certification.

Getting Started

The Coral Reef Conservation course references information in the digital manual – AWARE – Our World, Our Water – downloadable for free on the PADI Aware Foundation website. Although this manual is not required for the course, you can read the chapter on coral reefs in preparation for meeting with your instructor.

Academic

Through classroom discussions, you learn:

  • How coral reefs function and the complex nature of life on a reef.
  • Why coral reefs are so important.
  • Why many coral reefs are in serious trouble.
  • What you can do to prevent further decline.
  • How the PADI AWARE Foundation unites divers and water enthusiasts to make a difference.
PADI Fish Identification Specialty Course

PADI Fish Identification Specialty course

About the Course

“What was that fish?” is a common question heard after a dive. If you want to be the scuba diver with the answers, instead of the one asking the questions, then take the Fish Identification Specialty course. You’ll enjoy your dives even more when you recognize the creatures that you see and can identify the main fish families and their characteristics.

If you’re at least 10 years old and a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver or higher, you can enroll in the PADI – Fish Identification course.

Getting Started

Stop by your local dive shop to enroll in the course.

Academic

Once you learn to recognize what types of fish you see, you’ll find it easier to reference the exact species after a scuba dive. For example, a butterfly fish in the Caribbean has a similar shape to a butterfly fish in Southeast Asia, but colors and markings may be wildly different. If you know what fish family it belongs to, you can more easily look up the local name or at least be able to intelligently ask the local scuba instructor what you saw.

During two scuba dives, you’ll learn:

  • How to identify characteristics of local fish families and species.
  • Fish survey techniques and strategies.
  • About Project AWARE activities that can help protect aquatic life.

Get credit! The first dive of this PADI Specialty Diver course may credit as an Adventure Dive toward your Advanced Open Water Diver certification – ask your instructor about earning credit.

Equipment

Beyond using basic scuba equipment, you’ll want a slate to record what you see and a fish identification card if available for your area. Your PADI Instructor and local dive center staff may suggest additional equipment or references depending on what you’re likely to see on your dives.

During three self-reliant training dives, you’ll practice:

  • Performing an air consumption rate swim to gather information for later calculation.
  • Switching to a redundant air supply system during simulated emergency situations.
  • Swimming without a mask.
  • Navigating to various points, including your exit.
  • Using a DSMB.

Get credit! The first dive of this PADI Specialty Diver course may credit as an Adventure Dive toward your Advanced Open Water Diver certification – ask your instructor about earning credit.
